A Super Cool Summer Design Challenge: How One Kickstarter Campaign Is Kicking It!

Seven years after the introduction of the iPhone, mobile phone industry executives gathered at the Fortune Magazine’s Brainstorm Tech conference this week to confess that they misjudged the potential impact of the iPhone. Back in the day, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer decried the new device: “There’s no chance that the iPhone is going to get any significant market share.”

Today, 500 million iPhones later, former mobile giants like Ericsson are still wondering what hit them. By providing a unique mix of useful features that were just good enough, and packaging them in an elegant and easy-to-use fashion, Apple was able to tap into a tidal wave of unmet customer demand that continues expanding to this day.

Which brings us to this summer’s coolest startup: Launched on Kickstarter, this innovative product has taken a page directly from Steve Jobs’s iPhone design manual – taking a familiar well-defined product and redefining it in an altogether new way, providing a unique mix of useful features in an elegant and easy-to-use fashion.
